UB's "Blonde Hybrid" Featuring a Hand carved Spruce top, solid Maple ribs is a Top quality double bass with carved sound and response. The UB Upright Bass has the best of both worlds: a carved bass sound and feel blended with the economical and durable use of laminated/ply wood back and sides.

The utmost care and craftsmanship has been employed in the construction of this double bass to ensure that every detail receives proper attention. Graduated laminations of Carpathian sycamore maple and solid carved European spruce tops on our hybrid versions are finished with all ebony fittings. In tribute to the highly collectable and widely sought after Kay basses that were custom made exclusively for professional musicians of the 30's 40's and 50's, the Upton Bass Hybrid SuperSwing Double Bass has real inlayed purfling throughout. German tuners by add to this double bass's appeal. The scroll bevels, pegbox interior, rib miter, F-holes, and neck heel have all been painted black by hand (this is optional and if you do not want the painted lines, please let us know!). Hand finished in our Connecticut workshop in a classic Boiled Linseed Oil, true blonde finish, the UB Hybrid SuperSwing Double Bass is truly unlike any other instrument available on the double bass market in this price range.
The SuperSwing Double Bass is built on the UB Hawkes model and is a full-bodied 7/8 bass with a 42 inch string length. The robust upper bouts allow for the bass to move more air, resulting in a thunderously low but warm tone. Our Hybrid SuperSwing Bass has long been a popular choice of our Bluegrass, Jazz, and Rockabilly customers, who report that an amplifier is not needed in smaller venues.
Each UB Hybrid SuperSwing is imported exclusively by Upton Bass from Europe in the white and hand finished by our workshop where we set the necks, install the tuners, fingerboard bridge and everything else to make a perfect plating bass. Our Upton Bass SuperSwing Hybrid Double Bass has become so popular that we have seen inferior copies on the market. Don't be fooled!
It is suggested that each UB Hybrid SuperSwing Model should be fitted with the "birdland style" adjusting wheels on the bridge. our adjusting wheels include threaded brass inserts and sleeves for years of trouble free operation. In addition, you can adjust your string height on the band stand because they are so smooth.
